Medieval trousers

Medieval Trousers

The history of medieval trousers does not begin in the Middle Ages; trousers, or legwear, have been documented as clothing and protection for legs and lower body against wind and weather as far back as Ötzi the Iceman, and archaeological finds show that in Antiquity, the Germanic tribes adopted trousers as clothing from the Celts as early as 700 BC. So trousers are much older than many people think.

From the early Middle Ages, men wore not only trousers but also braies with hose, especially among the Franks and Anglo-Saxons, this type of legwear was common. Norsemen tended to wear practical Viking trousers, which were wide and robust, such as the Rusha trousers or the Thorsberg trousers, known today from the find in Thorsberg Moor. You can find both of these medieval trousers in our online shop, also with matching leg wraps. As you can see, there is not just one classic type of medieval trousers, but many different ones, which we have summarized here as medieval trousers, and even for children, we offer a larger selection of medieval trousers for the little ones.

What should I consider when buying medieval trousers?

As in the Middle Ages, there are different reasons why you might need such medieval trousers. Do you want to visit a medieval market or a knight's dinner in costume and still need suitable trousers? Then you have practically free choice among our trousers and can decide on the medieval trousers you like; even Landsknecht trousers could be the right choice. If you need suitable medieval trousers for a specific portrayal as a reenactor, such as Vikings or Landsknechts, please feel free to contact us, we are happy to help. For your LARP character, you can also decide freely, as a LARP costume should always match your own character, and you know best what trousers you want to buy. We would like to point out that medieval trousers in brown or black are much more practical, as dirt is not immediately visible and cleaning is also less problematic.
