Why do I need a cloak at a medieval market or LARP?
First, a cloak protects you from wind and weather, especially during transitional seasons like spring and autumn, when there are many days with unpleasant low temperatures or rain. Your normal medieval clothing will only protect you to a limited extent, whereas a wool cloak offers real protection from rain and cold – what do you think people in the Middle Ages did? In summer, a cotton cloak protects you on cool summer evenings and from light rain showers, and it makes a perfect blanket if you want to sit on the grass or in the hay!
In LARP, the right cloak or cape is not only functional but also an important part of your character's costume. For example, which cloak would be more suitable for a ranger: an elegant red velvet cloak with fur trim, or a robust brown or green one that camouflages the ranger, is durable, and thus lasts a long time? Clearly, the simple and robust cloak.
