This high-quality Viking ferrule decorated in Jelling style was made of robust bronze and is intended for DIY knife making. The ferrule has a recess in the middle for the knife blade to close it off towards the knife handle and is suitable for small and medium knife blades with a blade width of 1.8 to 2 cm, but can easily be enlarged with a fine file. The motif of the ferrule is executed in the so-called Jelling style and comes from the spherical end of a ring brooch from the Viking Age from the Skaill Hoard in Orkney, which contained various finds from the 9th - 10th centuries. Historically, a ferrule prevents the handle from splitting when the tang is inserted, and this Viking Age ferrule in Jelling style gives the owner a corresponding status. The Viking ferrule in Jelling style made of bronze is ideal for DIY knife making by craftsmen and is therefore also perfect for Early Medieval reenactors.
