The Viking oval brooches Gjerstad in Oseberg style made of bronze - replica also known as tortoise brooches, are based on a find from the early Middle Ages in Gjerstad, Norway, and the original is now in the British Museum. The design of the Gjerstad oval brooch is attributed to the so-called Oseberg style, which is appropriate for the find dating to the 9th century. On the inside there is a sturdy pin that can also be used to fasten heavy fabrics.
Oval brooches were an important part of women's clothing during the Viking Age; they served to connect the apron and underskirt, which is why they were also used in pairs. Our Gjerstad oval brooch in Oseberg style is therefore ideally suited for Viking reenactment, LARP and the medieval market.
