This early medieval Viking Gokstad belt fitting with rider is a replica and was handcrafted from robust bronze. The original, depicting a lancer, was found near the Swedish island of Gotland in a ship burial and dates back to the 10th century. On the back are long pins used for fastening, by being pushed through the leather and then carefully flattened with a hammer.
