This authentic Rus knife blade Haithabu, based on a Viking Age model from the city of Novgorod in modern-day Russia, is hand-forged from steel, sharpened, and has a wrought-iron appearance. The small, tapering early medieval knife blade is ideal for a DIY build of a Viking or Rus knife. Even among the Germanic peoples, this short blade was not uncommon and was used as an everyday and working knife well into the Middle Ages. The tang can be "inserted" into a wooden or bone handle for attachment. The Rus knife blade Novgorod is therefore perfectly suited for DIY knife makers and early medieval craftsmen, as well as Rus reenactment.
