This cylindrical medieval lantern was elaborately handcrafted from wood and rawhide. Two round wooden plates were connected by eight rods and covered and sewn with parchment. A handle, attached to a wide metal nozzle, allows pillar candles to be safely lit, replaced and lowered into the lantern. By means of a braided rope, this medieval lantern can be carried or hung and is therefore an ideal decoration and lighting for camp life, the medieval market and reenactment.
