This small polished axe head, also known as a flail or war flail, is the classic weapon of medieval infantry, which developed from the peasant flail in the 12th century. Since ordinary peasants and people could handle a flail, not much training was needed to prepare them for battle. The higher-quality craftsmanship with robust steel chains and end pieces, attached to a longer wooden handle, fits perfectly as a historical decoration in any knight's room of a medieval fan, at a medieval market, or in reenactment.
