This early medieval piece of jewelry made of robust bronze, also known as a Lunula Amulet, was often part of a woman's necklace in the so-called Kievan Rus'. The Kievan Rus' derived their name and that of their territory from their tribal leader, the Rus'. Co-founded by Varangians, traders and warriors from Scandinavia, the empire was the direct trade link between the Vikings and Byzantium from the 8th to the 11th centuries, and thus a significant economic factor and local power.
The origin of the Lunula Amulet probably lies in antiquity, but it is demonstrably through the Slavs that the Lunula Amulet spread throughout Northern and Eastern Europe in the Early Middle Ages. Jewelry and amulets like this were thus widespread among the Slavs, Rus', and Vikings and served as jewelry for girls and women. This necklace is suitable for Early Medieval Reenactment and LARP.
