This special Germanic Wotan bracteate made of bronze is a classic Germanic piece of jewellery from late Antiquity and features a runic inscription in Elder Futhark. The special thing about it is that the original has been found twice. It dates from the 1st to 5th century and is based on a find from near Køge in Denmark. As the name suggests, it shows Wotan with a spear on his horse Sleipnir. There are two interpretations of the runic inscription on the bracteate:
My name is Hariuha, the experienced traveller. I offer protection on journeys, or else I am called Hariuha. Knowing about misfortune, I bring luck.
Only about a third of the discovered bracteates have a runic inscription, which usually cannot be clearly translated.
This Germanic Wotan bracteate made of bronze is ideal for Germanic and Late Antiquity reenactment, but also suits Nordic LARP characters.
