This Anglo-Saxon disc brooch Overstone was handcrafted and gold-plated and is a copy of a find from the early medieval settlement with a cemetery in Overstone, Northamptonshire. The disc fibula was made of robust lead-free pewter and plated with a 1 micron thick layer of gold and has a sturdy pin on the back. Gold plating was carried out on many pieces of jewelry during the Viking Age to enhance their value without making the jewelry entirely of pure gold, which would make it unaffordable. The appearance strongly resembles a Viking disc fibula from Birka in the Borre style, which we also have in the shop, but there are also finds of it in England, so it could be an Anglo-Saxon copy. The gold-plated Anglo-Saxon disc brooch is perfect for Early Medieval Reenactment, Vikings Cosplay, fits every medieval market, into LARP and is also a very special gift!
