Medieval Ring

The ring is one of the oldest and most well-known pieces of jewelry, found all over the world in different variations. The oldest ring is over 20,000 years old and was carved from mammoth ivory. Made from bone, wood, amber, horn, and later also from bronze, iron, silver, and gold, rings were used not only as jewelry but also as a means of exchange and payment since antiquity, known as "ring money." The upper class in the Middle Ages used rings as a symbol of power and status in the form of signet rings and ornamental rings, while common people tended to wear protective rings against evil or rings for healing. Another meaning of rings is as a sign of love and loyalty in marriage, which can occasionally be traced back to antiquity. Orders such as the Templars or secret societies also wore rings as a sign of recognition and solidarity.

What should I consider when buying my ring?

First, you should know your ring size, that makes many things easier! Then comes the question of why you want to buy a ring. If you want to buy it for decoration for everyday wear or as a gift, then you can decide entirely according to your taste. However, please note that rings made of bronze can form a light film of dirt on some people when worn continuously, which is, however, washable. If you don't want that or have an allergy, then we advise you to choose a ring made of silver; these are generally unproblematic! If you are looking for a themed ring, for example, for Vikings, orient yourself by our description; we make sure that these are as accurate as possible. Please note that our Viking & Medieval rings are handcrafted by our jewelers, and therefore small deviations can always occur; they are not mass-produced!
