This early medieval lantern is modelled on the well-known Viking Visby lantern and was elaborately handcrafted from rosewood with rawhide. The two hexagonal wooden plates were connected by rods and covered with rawhide. The drip tray with the candle holder is pulled up with a wooden stick and can be easily replaced and lit. Lanterns like this were already used in the early Middle Ages, making this authentic model ideal for a Viking camp, medieval market and reenactment.
