Brandubh is an Irish variant of the popular Viking game Hnefatafl. It is believed to have arrived there in the 8th or 9th century through exchange with the Scandinavians.
In this variant, the goal is for the 'king' (green game piece), or in this case the Brandubh (=black raven), to reach a corner of the board with the help of his companions (white game pieces). The attackers (black game pieces) naturally try to prevent exactly that.
The game is designed as a game-in-a-leather-pouch and has the game board printed on the inside. The sturdy suede creates a compact and stable pouch that can be taken anywhere.
The game board is, of course, authentically decorated with a Celtic-inspired braided pattern and features a raven motif on the corner tabs, as known from the "Raven Banner Penny".
Material: Suede, Glass
Dimensions: Game board approx. 30 x 30 cm, game pieces 1 - 2 cm diameter
