This pair of Viking oval brooches, Öland in Broa style, was handcrafted and gold-plated, and is a replica of a find on Öland in Sweden. Often referred to as bowl brooches, they were made from robust lead-free pewter and plated with a 1 micron thick layer of gold, featuring sturdy pins on the back. Gold plating like this was common on many pieces of jewelry during the Viking Age to enhance their value; only very rarely was jewelry made entirely from pure gold. Oval brooches were a decorative part of women's attire during the Viking Age, and their ornamentation and size, as well as the pearls and jewelry chains, indicated status and wealth. This pair of gold-plated Viking oval brooches, Öland in Broa style, is perfect for Viking reenactment, Vikings cosplay, fits every medieval market, and into LARP.
