The silver thistle brooch is, besides the tartan, perhaps the most recognizable symbol of all things Scottish for Scots. The thistle was already used as an emblem of Scotland in the 13th century of the Middle Ages. Allegedly, it prevented a nocturnal raid by the Norwegians under King Hakon when they became acquainted with the prickly nature of the thistle and thus gave themselves away despite the darkness of the night. From the 15th century onwards, coins with thistles were minted as a Scottish symbol, and Scotland's most important chivalric order, the Order of the Thistle, was named after it. The knights and ladies wore the thistle emblem according to the motto: Nemo Me Impune Lacessit - "No one provokes me with impunity."
The silver Scottish thistle brooch was handcrafted from high-quality silver and is perfect for everyday wear as a piece of jewelry for Scotland and Highland fans, but also for LARP, Cosplay, and the medieval market.
