This small early medieval Frankish disk brooch with cloisonné, made of bronze, is also known as a rosette fibula and is a detailed replica from the Merovingian period. Dated to the 6th century, the original was probably made by Franks or Alamanni. It was part of and a status symbol for Merovingian women's attire, where it was worn in pairs or combined with a bird fibula to close the neckline of the dress in the chest area.
This replica was made of robust bronze and, of course, does not feature the eponymous genuine almandine cloisonné, but rather red glass paste, which is visually almost identical. On the back, there is a sturdy pin with a coil spring, which gives the pin the necessary tension.
