Guldengroschen of Rudolf II - Replica
The Guldengroschen of Rudolf II. , also known as the Joachimsthaler Guldengroschen or Weißgroschen, is a faithful coin replica from the Bohemian Renaissance. Minted using classical coinage techniques with a hand-engraved die, this replica boasts an authentic appearance with a high level of detail. Original Weißgroschen were a common means of payment in Bohemia during the reign of Emperor Rudolf II (1576–1611). Rudolf's court in Prague was the cultural and scientific center of Europe at the time. This coin, also known as the Joachimsthaler Guldengroschen, gained enormous popularity throughout Europe due to its high quality and purity. Its name was soon shortened to "Taler" and became synonymous with large silver coins.
The obverse of the Guldengroschen shows the Bohemian two-tailed lion, the heraldic animal of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The Latin inscription reads: RUDOL II.D.G.R. I.S.A.G.H.B.REX ("Rudolf II, by the grace of God Emperor of the Romans, ever augmenter of the Empire, King of Germania, Hungary and Bohemia)." The inscription is divided in the lower part by the mint mark of the minting location Joachimsthal. In the center of the reverse is the crowned coat of arms of the Archduchy of Austria on the breast of the double-headed imperial eagle. The year 1584 is clearly embossed in the upper part, and the inscription continues with the text: ARCHIDUX.A.DUX.B.M.M ("Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, Margrave of Moravia").
The Guldengroschen of Rudolf II. is perfect as game currency for LARP or Cosplay, as a prop for Reenactment, as historical decoration, a collector's item or a lucky charm for your wallet.
