Wenceslaus IV gold ducats - brass replica
Gold Ducat of Wenceslas IV – Coin Replica from the Hussite Era
This replica of the Gold Ducat of Wenceslas IV. was minted using medieval techniques, just like in the royal mints, with a hand-engraved die, and impresses with its high level of detail and historical accuracy. Brass was chosen as the material and polished after minting to closely resemble the original gold look. In the center of the obverse is a large Gothic monogram "W" (Wenceslaus), King Wenceslas, framed by the circulating inscription of his name and title. The reverse shows the traditional symbol of the Bohemian Kingdom – the crowned, double-tailed lion rampant, surrounded by ornamental elements and an inscription.
The gold ducat was the most valuable means of payment in the Late Middle Ages, 14th–15th century, and was used for the highest transactions, diplomacy, payment of soldiers, or wealth accumulation, while silver groschen served for daily trade. It represents royal authority in a time of discord and crises such as the Papal Schism and the impending Hussite Wars.
The period of minting the original ducat was the Late Middle Ages from 1378–1419. Please note that this is an artistic replica and not legal tender. The replica of the Gold Ducat of Wenceslas IV. made of brass is ideal as a prop for Late Medieval reenactment, cosplay, a gift, or for collectors.
