Matthias Corvinus Gold Ducat - an artful ducat replica

A story of power and legend. This replica of a Hungarian gold ducat coin was minted using medieval techniques with a hand-engraved die and captivates with its attention to detail. Brass was chosen as the material and polished after minting to achieve a very close resemblance to the original gold look.On the obverse, the crowned Madonna sits on the throne, below her a raven flies with a ring - the coat of arms of the Hunyadi family, associated with Matthias Corvinus. The reverse shows Saint Ladislaus in armor with a battle axe and orb, the patron saints of Hungary.

Historically, golden Hungarian ducats were a stable and sought-after currency among kings, magnates, and mercenaries. Matthias Corvinus (1458–1490) ruled Hungary and Croatia, was an anti-king of Bohemia, and founded the Bibliotheca Corviniana. His "Black Army" was one of the most famous mercenary forces in Europe.

The period of minting of the original ducat was the Late Middle Ages from 1458–1490. Please note, this is an artistic replica and not legal tender. The brass replica of the Matthias Corvinus Gold Ducat is ideal as a prop for Late Medieval reenactment, cosplay, historical decoration, or for collectors.
