This Germanic Spangenhelm with cheek flaps is a replica, based on a helmet worn in late antiquity that persisted into the Middle Ages. The special feature of a Spangenhelm is that it consists of several segments connected and held together by the Spangen (metal bands). Compared to later helmets forged from a single piece, the Spangenhelm could be manufactured more simply, quickly, but also artfully decorated, as northern European Vendel helmets impressively demonstrate! The Germanic Spangenhelm with cheek flaps has an adjustable leather inlay with a chin strap and a brass buckle for closure. It is perfect for Germanic, Slavic, Huns reenactment and Eastern Roman portrayals, but also fits well at medieval markets and in LARP.
