Our silver Claddagh ring, according to legend, originated in the Irish fishing village of Claddagh, where an enslaved Irishman made such a ring for his betrothed who had been left behind, hoping to give it to her upon his return, which he did.
The silver Claddagh ring shows two hands holding a heart with a crown. The heart symbolizes love, the hands friendship or trust, and the crown fidelity and loyalty. Since the late 20th century, the Claddagh ring has enjoyed great popularity as an engagement and wedding ring outside of Claddagh and Ireland.
A Claddagh ring is worn as an engagement ring or wedding ring as follows:
If worn on the right hand with the point of the heart facing away from the wearer (i.e., towards the fingertips), it signals the search for a partner.
Worn on the right, with the heart facing the wearer, it signifies that a romantic relationship already exists.
The ring on the left hand with the point of the heart facing the wearer corresponds to a wedding ring.
