Viking Glass & Jewelry Beads
Viking Glass & Jewelry Beads
Glass & jewelry beads are among the oldest pieces of jewelry worn by humans. Even before antiquity, Egyptians used such beads for their necklaces and discoveries. In Europe, glass beads were used by Celts, Alamanni, Germans, and also Romans as jewelry beads. Later, glass beads were found among Vikings, Franks, Rus, and Slavs, which also had unique characteristics in color and appearance. Our Viking Age glass & jewelry beads are mostly based on finds from Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea region, the British Isles, and also medieval Europe, which we indicate in the description. However, due to trade and travel in earlier times, it is realistic that such a bead could also be found as a similar type elsewhere. Nodule beads and eye beads were found on several bead necklaces from different centuries and sites.
