It has a blunt and wide steel blade with an equally wide fuller, which significantly reduces its weight but allows for the full transfer of power through the sword. The short crossguard and pommel are made of steel. The grip and scabbard are made of leather-wrapped wood. The scabbard itself also has a chape and a wooden hanger to carry the sword on a belt. This sword is perfect for Viking and early medieval reenactment, but also as a gift and decoration for fans of this era!

Link to an original find

Not suitable for stage combat!

Material: Steel, wood, leather

Overall length: approx. 98 cm

Blade length: approx. 80 cm max.

Blade width: approx. 60 mm

Weight (without scabbard): approx. 1.5 kg ++++Due to its overall length of 82 cm, this Viking-era sax knife (also called scramasax) can rather be classified as a sword. It has a single-edged, blunt EN45 spring steel blade with a strong back and a pointed tip. The full tang is sturdily riveted to the pommel. In the upper two-thirds of the blade, along the back, there is a particularly wide fuller that ends just before the blade tip. The wooden grip is tightly wrapped with thin brown leather cord.

However, what sets this early medieval one-handed sword apart from the rest is the unconventional shape of its crossguard and pommel. Viking swords classified as Petersen Type G are a rather small group of rare, not widely distributed, mostly single-edged swords. They are characterized by a lower guard element and an upper guard element or pommel, which typically have tapering ends twisted into symmetrical spirals and pointing away from the grip. Since only a few finds are known to date, it remains quite difficult to make reliable statements about the exact dating and distribution of this sword type. Based on the few preserved examples (or fragments thereof), however, experts tend to assume that Type G swords originated in 9th/10th century Norway.

The Viking longsax is delivered with a robust, high-quality scabbard made of brown leather with beautiful, durable braided stitching.

Please note that this Viking sword is not suitable for stage combat due to its non-rounded blade tip. It is designed as a collector's item or decorative object, but is also excellently suited as a prop (e.g. to complete your costume) and will simply perfect your transformation into a proud Nordic warrior!

Details:
- Blade made of EN45 spring steel (carbon steel, not stainless), crossguard and pommel made of steel, grip made of wood with leather wrapping
- Overall length: approx. 82 cm
- Blade length: approx. 67 cm
- Grip length: approx. 15 cm (grip section approx. 10 cm)
- Max. blade width: approx. 4.5 cm
- Blade thickness: approx. 4 mm (striking edge approx. 1.5 to 2 mm)
- Point of balance: approx. 14.5 cm in front of the guard
- Incl. leather scabbard
- Weight without scabbard: approx. 1.04 kg
- Weight with scabbard: approx. 1.29 kg

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1062/0715/0405/files/Wikinger_Langsax_Scheide_Petersen_Typ_G_Dekoration_ALORIA.jpg?v=1793322132
