Gold plating was carried out on many pieces of jewelry during the Viking Age to enhance their value without making the jewelry entirely of pure gold, which would make it unaffordable. The appearance strongly resembles a Viking disc fibula from Birka in the Borre style, which we also have in the shop, but there are also finds of it in England, so it could be an Anglo-Saxon copy.
